Tipton Lodge History
On Monday August 25, 1828, twenty-seven Master Masons
met in Logansport Indiana to organize a Masonic Lodge. It
was named Tipton Lodge #33 at a subsequent meeting and
was a new born member of the Masonic Family in Indiana.
Though the number was under probationary dispensation, they
received their Charter form the Grand Lodge of Indiana on
November 20, 1828.
The population of Cass County at that time was only 500 to
600 as the 1830 census gave 1,162, and Logansport was a
mere village of about 175, yet at that meeting the following 27
Master Masons were present and took part in the organizing of
Tipton Lodge, and gave of there time, money and influence in
laying the foundation upon which the industrial and educational
superstructures of Cass County and Logansport in built and are
now enjoying.
The Most Worshipful John Tipton, Past Grand Master of the
Grand Lodge of Indiana took the chair and appointed the
following Brothers as Officers.
